Bridging Gaps for Teen Parents: Paola's Story

Facing the challenge of raising a daughter as a single mother while pursuing education, she received support from family and AltaMed Youth Services. By age 21, she had graduated from East Los Angeles College with four associate's degrees.
The Heart of the Bridge Program
The AltaMed Bridge program provided Paola with one-on-one mentorship and financial support through program stipends. Her case manager, Thelma Martinez, helped her navigate the transition from high school to college and explore career pathways in law enforcement.

Educational Achievement
In 2023, Paola graduated with a 3.5 GPA, earning: AA in Administration of Justice, AA-T in Administration of Justice, AA in Social and Behavioral Sciences, and AA in Natural Sciences. She plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice at Cal State Los Angeles and explore FBI careers.

Program Information
AltaMed Youth Services operates a three-phase support system: Parenting Workshops (one-year curriculum in parenting and life skills), AltaMed Bridge Program (academic mentorship and financial support), and Future Workforce Development (planned expansion).
Bridge Program Impact: 70 community college participants, 7 four-year university attendees, 9 vocational school participants. The program aims to provide laptops and expand workforce development services connecting participants to AltaMed health career pathways.
